In accordance with the policy introduced by the Australian Fencing Federation requiring verification of age for entry into national events, Fencing SA has elected to introduce age verification for state events.
This is to ensure fair and safe competition and that all fencers are competing in the appropriate age groups.
What is Age Verification?
All fencers who intend to compete in “Under [Age]” and Veteran competitions will need to have their date of birth verified by a member of the Fencing SA Board or other designated person.
We will not retain copies of, or store any of our members’ personal documentation, which means that the fencer or their parent/guardian must bring a copy of a current/valid document (such as passport, birth certificate, driver’s licence, other government-issued ID) to certain competitions where a verifier will be present. The ID will be manually sighted by a verifier.
Age verification will only be required to be completed one time, as the verifier will mark this as complete in our membership database, and this will remain as verified on your profile (only visible to admins).
The Fencing SA Board will make this compulsory from 2025 and further communications will be issued closer to the 2025 competition season.
Fencers will be able to verify their age at the remaining FSA competitions in 2024.
To provide additional opportunity for age verification, FSA Board Directors will conduct club visits to assist with verification, and we will liaise with clubs on specific dates and times. Please do not approach Board members in your club ad hoc about verifying your ID, as they may be there to train or coach and verification will need to be processed by a Director independent of your club.
