COVID-19 Return to Fencing Plan

This morning the Premier announced an update to the South Australian Roadmap for Easing COVID-19 Restrictions (the Roadmap).

South Australia will now plan to move to Step 2 of the Roadmap on Friday 5 June 2020 rather than 8 June as previously advised.

For our sport this will mean that Step 2 restrictions will still apply, however, they will come into effect earlier from 5 June. Please note that the Roadmap is a guide to when and what restrictions may be eased.

From 5 June 2020, in accordance with Step 2 of the Roadmap, we are expecting:

Indoor sports activities can commence

Groups of 20 maximum may be permitted

Density (1 person per 4sqm) and social distancing (1.5m spacing) requirements will apply

Level 2 of the SA Roadmap permits sport to transition to indoor sport from 5 June 2020. However, it must be noted that moving to Step 2 is subject to the State Co-ordinator updating the Emergency Management (Non-Essential Business and Other Activities No 5) (COVID-19) Direction 2020 (the Directions), subject to public health performance of the situation at the time.

Therefore, until the Directions are updated, there is no certainty that a return to fencing will be permitted from 5 June 2020. Therefore, we encourage you to refer to 5 June 2020 as a date to start transitioning back to return to training, not the date to recommence.

Fencing SA has been working on a Return to Sport Plan that has been approved by the Australian Fencing Federation and will be issued to Clubs and coaches this evening and the links to the documents are provided below:
