Covid19 Risk Minimisation

The FencingSA board, in light of the COVID-19, is temporarily suspending the requirement for fencers to shake hands at the end of a match for all FencingSA competitions and events.

Shaking hands is currently part of the rules of the sport. The penalty for refusing to shake hands would normally be a Black Card.

Fencers are still required to return to the on-guard line and salute at the end of a match. Referees and participants will be reminded of this rule change at any FSA competition.

FSA recommends that any affiliated club consider adopting a similar approach to ending matches/bouts until further notice.

FSA also requires that any fencers, families or spectators that have travelled from any country identified as at risk by the Australian government not attend any FencingSA competition or event for a period of two weeks from the date of return to Australia.
